{"id":225,"date":"2018-05-30T14:41:15","date_gmt":"2018-05-30T14:41:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.paddlemarco.com\/blog\/?p=225"},"modified":"2018-06-03T01:00:33","modified_gmt":"2018-06-03T01:00:33","slug":"the-busiest-time-of-the-year-on-marco-island","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.paddlemarco.com\/blog\/the-busiest-time-of-the-year-on-marco-island","title":{"rendered":"The busiest time of the year on Marco Island"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>The busy months<\/h2>\n<p><strong>The busy season on Marco Island and Naples, Florida.<\/strong><br \/>\nIf you have ever planned a vacation to southwest Florida, you probably planned it when you and your family had some time off.\u00a0 Most american families get Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter off.\u00a0 Those just happen to be the 3 busiest holidays and weeks of the year on Marco Island and Naples, Florida.<\/p>\n<p>Eco-tour operators, hotels, restaurants and local businesses all rely on &#8220;Season&#8221; which typically runs from Thanksgiving through Easter on Marco Island and peaks during the middle of March.\u00a0 The population of Marco Island is around 15,000 full-time residents and that will almost quadruple to 55,000 people during March and April.\u00a0 &#8230;but why?\u00a0 There are 2 big reasons:<\/p>\n<p><strong>1) Spring Break:<\/strong><br \/>\nEvery elementary and high school up north have a different week that they have spring break vacation on.\u00a0 So eco-tour operators, restaurants, shops and businesses will be extremely busy for at least 6 weeks from the beginning of March through the middle of April.\u00a0 Easter also plays an important role as it&#8217;s on a different date every year, so that can also shorten up or lengthen the tail-end of busy season in April.\u00a0 Usually around April 23rd, all the spring breakers have headed north to go back to school and Marco Island returns to normal.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2) Snowbirds:<\/strong><br \/>\nUsually when the first big snow storm hits up north, retirees or people that have a secondary home on Marco Island and Naples, will stay 4-5 months to here to avoid the harsh winters up north.\u00a0 November through April temperatures on Marco Island and Naples are very accommodating.\u00a0 Usually in the 70&#8217;s with low humidity and very little rain.\u00a0 You know season has begun when all the transport semi-trucks arrive with all the white Cadillacs on them.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_231\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-231\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-231\" src=\"https:\/\/www.paddlemarco.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/paddlemarco_marcoisland.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.paddlemarco.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/paddlemarco_marcoisland.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.paddlemarco.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/paddlemarco_marcoisland-300x100.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-231\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Paddle Marco Kayak Tours &amp; Rentals &#8211; Marco Island<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>The first slow month&#8230;. May.<\/h2>\n<p>After a very busy 5 months, business owners and residents can count on less traffic, less people and unfortunately&#8230; less profits during the month of <strong>May<\/strong>.\u00a0 May can be brutal for business owners and employees alike.\u00a0 You can walk into a restaurant without any reservations and get any table you want because they are mostly empty.\u00a0 Eco-tour companies cut staff and only work a few days per week, making sure to get as many people as they can on 1 boat ride, rather than have 2 people on 5 different boat rides with empty seats.\u00a0 \u00a0It also rains a lot during may&#8230; and it&#8217;s unpredicable rain.\u00a0 Usually the rain hits in the afternoons, but during may it can be all day and every day.<\/p>\n<p>There are some good things about the month of May, though.\u00a0 Hotels are able to drop their rates, attracting folks from Miami who enjoy the beaches of Marco Island and avoiding the hustle and bustle of the city.\u00a0 Europeans also find the rates attractive and are able to vacation here during the month of May.\u00a0 May can also be a good thing, giving local businesses time to relax and gear up for summer.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_233\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-233\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-233\" src=\"https:\/\/www.paddlemarco.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/dolphin_explorer_marcoisland.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.paddlemarco.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/dolphin_explorer_marcoisland.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.paddlemarco.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/dolphin_explorer_marcoisland-300x100.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-233\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Dolphin Explorer &#8211;
